Food for Thought: A lockdown for Carnival

Ready for the road, road ready! Something we Carnival enthusiasts, are all too familiar in hearing! So when 2020 came along, you could imagine that the heartbreak was catastrophic.

But we saw it from our points of view. Points of view that solely lay on the foundations of having a good time, lime, drink, playing of Mas, Jouvert, Jab Jab, or what ever it was or where ever it was. But is it just us who suffered if that is the correct term... suffered? A bit deep no? "depends on how deep you feel about carnival" .......?

Anyways..a few aspects most of us forgot to think about or even consider, were the designers, DJ's, event organisers, The people behind the carnivals themselves.

Yes its devastating to not have a carnival or even a costume or good time, but how devastating would it be to have all your costumes ready after glueing and sewing and working endlessly to meet your deadlines for the Mas Band Launches, only to then be told that they wont make it to the road that year.

Mas Bands stuck with launches that cant go ahead. The amount of time, planning and effort and a whole heap of organising that goes into these launches it massively over looked. I learnt this from someone recently!!!

DJ's with their sets ready, they worked hard making sure their line ups were good their transitions were lit, Sound systems too, the whole aspect of reaching out to artists to come and perform on their sounds

And of course how could we forget, the whole entire board and committees that are behind these carnivals we treasure, who no doubt have been pondering back and forth and may even be up all night, at meeting after meeting, on whether carnival will go ahead or not. It must have been hellfire trying to sort everything out.

The government with their indecisiveness was no help at all! As well as people giving false information on social media.*rolls eyes* It was definitely something people never considered ever happening. A year without carnival....has that even happened before errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr nah! ...has it * searches google*

Sooo, What now huh?

With costumes on a back burner waiting to move forward, DJ's updating their sets, food vendors waiting, anticipating and a committee endlessly trying to figure out if there is going to be a carnival and how it will work....and where even..Everyone from the float drivers to the revellers, I guess we just wait!!! Reflect on the good times we have had and raise a glass to all the hardworking behind the scenes peeps we may have forgotten!

With fetes seeming to be popping up with ads for the baddest and most lit ones parties, I guess we can look forward to them ... for some sort of familiarity with the carnival scene after a year without!Something to look forward to

Dreamland and Jam Jouvert tickets were selling like hot cakes! soo lets see how they play out!!!!

I salute all the hardworking behind the scenes individuals and committees and organisations that do help carnival come to life.. We see yuh deh!!!!!

Next blog is all about the the Being united as one!!! SVG!!!!
